Students requesting to transfer-out* must do the following:
- Apply to the next school you plan to attend as soon as possible. Do not wait until your program has ended. Apply to the new school before requesting to transfer out.
- Go to CE 1, Suite 4100 and submit a completed Transfer Out Request Form. You can download the form here or obtain one from the front desk in building CE 1, Suite 4100.
- Submit your acceptance or admission letter from your new school and/or transfer-in form from your new school.
Students requesting to withdraw and transfer out must do the following:
- Apply to the next school you plan to attend as soon as possible. Do not wait until your program has ended. Apply to the new school before requesting to transfer out.
- Submit a completed Transfer Out Request Form. You can download the form here or obtain one from the front desk in building CE 1, Suite 4100. An International Student Advisor will contact you with a status update.
- Submit your acceptance or admission letter from your new school and/or transfer-in form from your new school.
- You must continue to attend your classes while your transfer out request is pending. If you stop attending class, you may fall out of status and you will no longer be eligible to transfer to your next school. Once your transfer out request is processed, you will receive an email confirmation from an International Student Advisor and they will inform you if any other documents or information are required. You are required to attend your classes at UCI Division of Continuing Education until you receive a confirmation email of your approval to withdraw and transfer.
*STAR and ASAP Students must contact the STAR Office first to receive their pre-transfer out approval.
Frequently Asked Questions
A new student who has just arrived in the United States can transfer only if your new school’s program starts less than 30 days after your arrival in the United States.
An international student advisor will contact you by email with the status of your transfer out request. They will inform you if any information or documents are missing.
It is your responsibility to submit a copy of your acceptance/admission letter before your current program has ended. If you are unable to submit a copy of your acceptance/admission letter before your current program ends, speak with an International Student Advisor.
After you have submitted the required documents, your I-20 will be electronically transferred out in the SEVIS database beginning from the day after your current program ends. If you are currently on academic probation, your transfer process will be on hold until it has been confirmed that you have successfully completed your program. Be aware that your next school of choice is unable to create a transfer-in I-20 for you until after UCI Division of Continuing Education has released your I-20.
See an International Student Advisor during walk-in advising hours Monday through Thursday between and 1:00-3:00 p.m. in Continuing Education 1 (Bldg #8).
You will need to contact your next school to inform them of your plans to travel outside of the U.S.
You can only request to transfer out to one school.
If you need to cancel your transfer out request, you must email a cancellation request before the last day of your program to ImmigrationOfficials@ce.uci.edu. Change requests received on or after the last day of your current program will not be allowed.
