On-Campus Employment
On-campus employment is allowed for students who are in valid F-1 status. On-campus employment opportunities are limited and must be part-time only (i.e. a maximum of 19 hours per week). Off-campus employment is not allowed unless you meet the requirements and are approved for Optional Practical Training.
Optional Practical Training (OPT)
Students are eligible for OPT after 9 months of consecutive full-time study, which can be fulfilled by completing one of the following pathways: 3 ACPs or 2 ACPs + 1 Internship. The internship may be completed in either the second or third quarter.
OPT employment must be directly related to the student’s final program of study. For example, if a student’s final program of study in an Accelerated Certificate Program + Internship is Business Administration (ACP BA), the student must find employment directly related to business administration. The student must be able to explain in writing and in person how the concepts, theories, and skills they learned in ACP BA relates to their work experience. Students should keep this in mind when selecting their ACP enrollment pathway.
Applying for Optional Practical Training (OPT)
The International Student Advising team hosts a quarterly Optional Practical Training (OPT) webinar regarding frequently asked questions and important application instructions to all certificate students within the first 2-3 weeks of the quarter. Current students will receive an email with a link to watch the required tutorial video about the application process. Students who are in their 3rd and final quarter of certificate level study should follow the instructions to apply. All students are welcome to attend the OPT webinar to prepare to apply for OPT in the future.
