00329 Let's Learn: Summer Book Club - Ryan Foland, Ditch the Act
Friday, July 30, 2021
12:00PM - 1:00PM
ucidce.zoom.us

The Let’s Learn Summer Book Club is for curious minds. We put a spotlight on new books and old favorites from authors, scientists, thinkers, and artists. We aim to inspire lifelong learning and exploration by presenting intellectually engaging topics.

Author, Ryan Foland Ditch the Act; Reveal the Surprising Power of the Real You for Greater Success

Ditch the Act shows how to present your humanness imperfect and flawed but honest, resilient, and willing to learn in strategic ways to achieve clear, defined goals. It provides an actionable program for building an authentic, long-lasting personal brand, explaining why exposure is important and how it cultivates more durable connections than any polished persona can.

By creating a personal brand that is honest and authentic and that reveals personal struggles, you’ll build stronger, longer-lasting relationships and achieve greater success.

Careers and businesses based on authenticity and truth aren’t just more rewarding than those founded on hyperbole and the “hard sell.” Because they’re founded on durable, robust relationships, they’re rock-solid and better withstand business uncertainty and tough times.

Be human. It’s the only way to get ahead in business today.

Ryan Foland As the communications manager for the Office of the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning at UCI, Ryan and his team design, create and deliver strategic communications and marketing for UCI Summer Session, the Division of Teaching Excellence and Innovation, and more than 25 units within the Division of Undergraduate Education. He is also global keynote speaker, author, and brand consultant that teaches people how to build their brand, get featured in publications, and grow their social media following. His clients include New York Times bestselling authors, venture capitalists, and Fortune 500 executives. He has been recognized by Inc. Magazine as a Top Marketer and named a Top Personal Branding Expert by Entrepreneur Magazine, as well as a 4-time TEDx speaker whose talks have been named in Top TED lists by Forbes, Mashable, and Inc. For fun, Ryan sails, draws stick figures, and raps.

00330 Let's Learn: Summer Book Club - Stacey Gordon, UNBIAS: Addressing Unconscious Bias At Work
Friday, August 27, 2021
12:00PM - 1:00PM
ucidce.zoom.us

The Let’s Learn Summer Book Club is for curious minds. We put a spotlight on new books and old favorites from authors, scientists, thinkers, and artists. We aim to inspire lifelong learning and exploration by presenting intellectually engaging topics.

Author, Stacey Gordon UNBIAS: Addressing Unconscious Bias At Work

UNBIAS: Addressing Unconscious Bias At Work A step-by-step guide on creating workplace cultures where employees feel they belong. Dismantling unhealthy workplaces involves much more than talking about it, and more than charts, graphs, and statistics—it requires action. Although it’s increasingly common for businesses of all shapes and sizes to appreciate the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace, many are often unaware of bias in the cultures they’ve created. Others might know there’s a problem, but don’t know how to properly address it. Stacey will help you understand concepts of workplace diversity, equity, and inclusion, show how to identify bias, and provides the tools for actively removing barriers and ensuring equity throughout an organization.

Stacey Gordon is the CEO of Rework Work, a company that focuses on reworking how organizations can inclusively recruit, hire, and engage employees, effectively creating inclusion and belonging for all. She has coached people managers and executive leaders from companies such as American Express, ADP, Kia Motors, HP, Walmart, and many others on improving DEI strategies. Stacey is also the creator of the second most viewed course across the LinkedIn learning platform, surpassing more than 1 million unique learners. Her unconscious bias course has been translated into at least four languages and has been featured by LinkedIn, Microsoft, and Virgin America (now Alaska Airlines). Stacey was a finalist for Los Angeles Business Journal’s Women Helping Women Award and was recognized by Forbes as a Top 3 Business Leader Who Spoke Out About Diversity & Inclusion. She has an MBA from Pepperdine University Business School, a SHRM-SCP certification and SHRM Inclusive Workplace Culture Credential.

Participation in this event does not require you to purchase or read the book.
