Course Numbers/Letters

The letters preceding a course number indicate the University of California campus at which there is an equivalent course, e.g., XI-Irvine, XL-Los Angeles. A "C" immediately following the campus designation indicates a concurrent course (campus regular session course in which UCI Division of Continuing Education students may concurrently enroll), e.g., XIC-Irvine campus concurrent course. When the letter "X" alone is used, the course is offered only through UCI Division of Continuing Education and is not equivalent to a regular session course. A single capital letter after a course number indicates a sequential course that continues through two or more successive quarters. Course numbers are classified as:

Lower division
Requires successful completion of one year of college, or consent of instructor.
100-199
Upper division
Requires successful completion of two years of college, or consent of instructor.
200-299
Graduate
Requires a Bachelor's degree and consent of instructor.
300-399
Professional credit courses in education
Requires employment as a teacher, teaching credential or equivalent background, unless otherwise noted.
400-499
Professional credit courses in fields other than education.
700-799
Special enrichment courses for participants of precollege age.
800-899
Noncredit courses offering Continuing Education Units.
