Foundations of Project Management

This is the first required course in the Project Management certificate program. For the best learning experience, we recommend taking it before any other course in the program. If you're not pursuing the certificate, you can also take it as a standalone course.

Grounded in the knowledge, terminology, and professional mindset required to lead successful projects, this course introduces key project management frameworks. Learners will examine the project manager’s role, responsibilities, and methodologies across a project’s lifecycle, preparing them to lead projects with confidence. Special topics include the evolution of the PMBOK, how organizations govern projects, tailoring projects to fit unique contexts, core leadership principles, and the role of AI and emerging tools in project management. At the end of this course, learners will select a project to carry out throughout all courses of the certificate program.
