“Curriculum Can be Completed in Just 6 Months”
IRVINE, Calif. – May 1, 2018 – With investment of time being a big priority when obtaining continuing education, the University of California, Irvine Division of Continuing Education (DCE) has launched the Spa and Wellness Management Certificate, a fully online professional development program that allows participants to complete their studies in as few as six months. The program is designed for both new and seasoned professionals who have the desire to improve their knowledge and career advancement opportunities. The four required courses are taught by leading industry experts who address real-world spa and wellness topics. Registration is currently open for the summer quarter.
“The relevant, comprehensive spa and wellness curriculum provides a formal education pathway for professionals to develop much needed management and leadership skills,” said Angela Jeantet, Director of Education & Business Programs at UCI Division of Continuing Education. “Participants can earn their certificate online in just six months and immediately begin applying what they’ve learned on the job.”
Throughout this practical and timely online program, participants will learn all aspects of the successful day-to-day operation of a spa as well as business strategies for sustained growth and profitability. Students will acquire a solid level of understanding and conceptual skills in management, operations, finance, human resources, marketing and treatments. Course curriculum will also cover strategic thinking for the development of business models and marketing plans and how to integrate a service culture that supports employee retention and high customer loyalty.
The four required courses offered include:
• Introduction to Spa and Wellness: Industry and Operations (Offered Summer Quarter) – Provides an overview of the convergence of spas, healthcare, tourism and hospitality among others within this global landscape. In addition, the topics of spa operations, market review and competitive analysis, revenue generation, retailing, customer service, human resources, standard operating procedures and effective reservation protocols are covered.
• Spa and Wellness Financial Management (Offered Summer Quarter) – Offers a comprehensive application of financial management for spa and wellness operations and problem-solving methods to apply to scenarios seen in the spa and wellness industry.
• Human Resources Management in Spa and Wellness – Explores human resources management techniques applicable to the spa and wellness environment, including employee recruitment, training, progressive coaching and termination. Examines the importance of developing a positive workplace culture that fosters employee engagement and motivation, setting and accomplishing goals, and creating meaningful work while maximizing business success.
• Marketing and Branding for Spa and Wellness Businesses – Teaches the fundamentals of developing a strategic marketing plan and process. Topics include branding, value propositions, unique selling propositions, marketing performance metrics, customer relationship management, customer service, marketing channels, public relations and social media.
