Free Webinar Discusses the Opportunities for Contract Management Professionals
IRVINE, Calif. – October 28, 2011 – In today’s competitive business landscape, contract management plays a vital role in every organization across various industries. The University of California, Irvine Extension understands the demand for well qualified professionals with top-quality education. In response, a free online webinar titled, "What is a Contract Manager,” is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 6 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. PST. Industry expert and guest speaker, Edward Velasquez, will host the webinar and share insights on the projected growth of the career field, career path opportunities, and financial benefits of a career in this field.
“Contract management plays a vital role in major industries in the public and private sector,” said Tom Pokladowski, acting director of law, finance and business programs at UC Irvine Extension. “With Edward’s experience in both the public and private settings, he will undoubtedly provide valuable insight to the contract management field and how students can position themselves to make the most of their careers.”
Participants will learn about professional certifications and generational issues that are impacting the current acquisition workforce due to changing markets and industries. Information on the importance of the contract manager role is to a company and how contract managers learn important skill sets that allow them to apply it to any company or industry will also be shared. Velasquez will provide insight into the average salaries for contract administrators and the advancement in salary for experienced contract management professionals as well.
With a career of more than two decades in contract and sub contract management, Velasquez created many procurement processes and procedures on county and federal levels. He has served as deputy project manager on complex technically-oriented, performance-based international contracts and as source selection committee chairman on several major capital procurements. Velasquez received a bachelor’s of science in organizational behavior and a master’s degree in organization development.
