Project Initiation
This is a required course in the Project Management certificate program. For the best learning experience, we recommend taking MGMT_X413.01 Foundations of Project Management before taking this course.
Explore the strategic transition from organizational intent to project activation through a “top-down” approach to initiation. Learners will examine how projects are defined and structured, including make-or-buy decisions, stakeholder identification, and the development of a project charter. Emphasis is placed on defining scope, objectives, success criteria, assumptions, constraints, and expected benefits, alongside early risk awareness and requirements development. The course also introduces preliminary planning tools such as the Work Breakdown Structure and early-stage project management planning.
