Montessori Lower Elementary Foundations

This 2-week summer course introduces strategies and content for individualizing instruction of academics for learners from TK through third grade. Adult learners explore the Montessori pedagogy and apply its strategies to academic content put forth in the California Curriculum Frameworks for academic subjects.

Adult learners will gain strategies to organize multi-grade classrooms that promote independent and self-motivated students. Foundations in promoting character, respect for all others and things, as well as learning how observation and record keeping guides individualized learning are provided. These strategies guide the adult learner to manage opportunities for peer to peer interaction, and teacher/student collaboration for a flourishing classroom.

Cross-curricular strategies are developed as part of the scope and sequence of Cosmic Education, the thread that leads children to see the interconnectedness of all things and leads to a deeper respect and understanding of the world and all knowledge. Subjects focus on the academics of Language and Math and also impress importance of curriculum inclusive in studies of Science, Geography, Social Studies, History, Art, Music, Drama and Movement/Physical Education. Hands-on, concrete materials assist conceptual development from material to abstract.

This course is also an excellent option for traditional teachers of this age group where methodology for individualizing, as well as creating and organizing curriculum would enhance their teaching. Enrollment is available for this course alone or a full Montessori El1 teaching credential.
