00800 Environmental and Financial Risk from Indoor Air Vapor Intrusion of Volatile Organic Compounds
Wednesday, June 20, 2018
11:30AM - 12:30PM

Contamination left behind from manufacturing is legacy of industrial progress and prosperity in the US and other parts of the developed world. These chemicals create some of the worst problems we deal with in the environmental science field including both carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic human health risks such as contaminated drinking water and inhalation of toxins through our lungs. Not only can these chemicals make people sick by multiple exposure routes, they can wipeout the market value of property. In this lunch-time seminar, Mike Marello P.G., CHg, will touch on real-life examples of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), along with measures used to mitigate risk caused by intrusion of VOCs to indoor air. He will also cover the financial risks associated with how environmental due-diligence affects the purchase of both commercial and industrial property.

Continuing Education 1 (Bldg 8) 2070-9

For HR and Learning and Development professionals: The impact of executive talent on a firm’s strategic direction and performance can be fatal when organizations fail to develop internal capabilities. Despite global CEO turnover reaching a 15-year high in 2015, only 54% of boards are actively developing CEO successors while 39% report having no single internal candidate who could replace the CEO, if necessary. The costs of neglecting to prepare for transitions in executive roles are incredibly high, with estimates as high as $112 billion in market value for public companies. Join us for a FREE keynote session to learn how you can cultivate a strong succession plan for your organization. This presentation is followed by a Q&A panel with industry experts sharing best practices on creating and implementing an internal L&D strategy. This free event is worth 3 HRCI® recertification credits. Please note: This event may be recorded. By registering, you acknowledge and give UCI permission to use the footage for marketing purposes.

00568 Transitioning from Teaching to Instructional Design
Wednesday, August 8, 2018
11:00AM - 12:00PM

Please join UCI Division of Continuing Education in welcoming Christy Tucker, learning design consultant and blogger, as she shares her story on how she transitioned from teaching to instructional design. Review tips on how to adapt a teaching resume to emphasize relevant skills and experience for instructional design. Discuss interview questions and share insight on what hiring managers want. Talk about portfolios and ways to show potential employers how your teaching skills transfer to instructional design. The field of instructional design is full of people who switched careers from teaching or other specialties, partly because the skills for successful instructional design overlap with multiple other areas of expertise. Current or former teachers will benefit most from this webinar, but anyone who is considering switching careers to instructional design may gain insight. This webinar will include pre-registration advisement for individuals interested in UCI DCE’s fully online E-Learning Instructional Design Certificate Program.
