The CMMC is a process that measures the ability of an organization within the defense industrial base (DIB) sector to protect such information. CMMC also adds a certification element to verify implementation of cybersecurity requirements. Contracting professionals in affected industries must know which requirements to flow down to their subcontracts as well as when a subcontract can or cannot be awarded. We will discuss the risk of contractors' reliance on certifications from subcontractors as well as ways subcontractors can protect themselves.

00331 Let's Learn: Summer Book Club - Lisa Cron, Story or Die
Friday, June 25, 2021
12:00PM - 1:00PM
ucidce.zoom.us

The Let’s Learn Summer Book Club is for curious minds. We put a spotlight on new books and old favorites from authors, scientists, thinkers, and artists. We aim to inspire lifelong learning and exploration by presenting intellectually engaging topics.

Author, Lisa Cron Story or Die; How to Use Brain Science to Engage, Persuade, and Change Minds in Business and in Life.

Whether you’re pitching a product, saving the planet, or convincing your kids not to text and drive, story isn’t just one way to persuade. It’s the way. It’s built into the architecture of the brain and has been since early humans gathered around the campfire.

In Story or Die, story coach Lisa Cron sets out to decode the power of story, first by examining how the brain processes information, translates it into narrative, and then guards it as if your life depends on it.

Armed with that insight, she focuses on how to find your real target audience and then pinpoint their hidden resistance. Finally, she takes you, step-by-step, through the creation of your own story, one that allows your audience to overcome their resistance and take up your call to action, not because you told them to, but because they want to.

LISA CRON is a story coach, speaker, and the author of Wired for Story and Story Genius. She has previously worked as a literary agent, a television producer, and a story consultant for Warner Brothers and The William Morris Agency, among others, and currently advises writers, nonprofits, educators, and journalists on the art and craft of story. Cron has also served on the faculty of the School of Visual Arts MFA program in visual narrative and, since 2006, has taught in the UCLA Extension Writers’ Program.

Participation in this event does not require you to purchase or read the book.

Author, Stacey Gordon UNBIAS: Addressing Unconscious Bias At Work

UNBIAS: Addressing Unconscious Bias At Work A step-by-step guide on creating workplace cultures where employees feel they belong. Dismantling unhealthy workplaces involves much more than talking about it, and more than charts, graphs, and statistics—it requires action. Although it’s increasingly common for businesses of all shapes and sizes to appreciate the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace, many are often unaware of bias in the cultures they’ve created. Others might know there’s a problem, but don’t know how to properly address it. Stacey will help you understand concepts of workplace diversity, equity, and inclusion, show how to identify bias, and provides the tools for actively removing barriers and ensuring equity throughout an organization.

Stacey Gordon is the CEO of Rework Work, a company that focuses on reworking how organizations can inclusively recruit, hire, and engage employees, effectively creating inclusion and belonging for all. She has coached people managers and executive leaders from companies such as American Express, ADP, Kia Motors, HP, Walmart, and many others on improving DEI strategies. Stacey is also the creator of the second most viewed course across the LinkedIn learning platform, surpassing more than 1 million unique learners. Her unconscious bias course has been translated into at least four languages and has been featured by LinkedIn, Microsoft, and Virgin America (now Alaska Airlines).
