The fully online Master of Advanced Study in Criminology, Law and Society (CLS) is suited to meet the goals of individuals seeking leadership positions within their organizations in a range of fields such as corrections, law enforcement, social services, probation/parole, as well as a variety of public administrative roles.
Program Details
The CLS program will equip you with the necessary skills to engage deeply in social science inquiry, encouraging you to ask critical questions and evaluate research effectively. Through interpreting and applying data, you'll develop a solid foundation for assessing data’s strengths and limitations and learn to synthesize theories and research findings to address questions and solve real-world problems.
A strong emphasis is placed on communication and collaboration with stakeholders, empowering you to implement innovative solutions to issues in criminology, law, and society with a focus on community strengthening and improving lives. You'll graduate with a versatile skill set that prepares you for professional advancement or further academic pursuits.
Program Duration
The program consists of 52 units of coursework which is completed sequentially in two years (six quarters). An optional one-week in-residence introductory course is scheduled right before fall quarter. In lieu of a thesis, students are required to take a capstone course, Social Problems, Law and Policy.

CLS program graduates hold positions in a variety of agencies including the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, district attorney’s offices, police departments, crime units, probation agencies, and parole agencies. They work as clerks of courts, appellate lawyers, criminal defense lawyers, psychologists, educators, and social workers.
