The Short Stories of John Cheever
Format A (not recorded)
American novelist and short story writer John Cheever has been called, “the Chekhov of the suburbs.” In over 150 short stories, most of them published in The New Yorker, Cheever explored the duality of human nature and the conflict between people’s social personas and their inner lives. In 1979, he received the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for his collected short stories.
In each meeting of this class, we will discuss one of Cheever’s most critically acclaimed short stories. A PDF of each story will be provided to class members by email in advance of each meeting. Max enrollment 25.
