Voices from the Shadows: Child Brides, Traffickers and the Fight for Freedom in California

Hybrid

Most people aren’t aware of stereotypes, beliefs, and practices of child marriage and human trafficking that flourish here in Southern California.

o Why have bills to prevent child marriage in California failed; who opposed them?
o Why is human trafficking so challenging to identify and prosecute?
o What explains why trafficking victims may not escape when they have the chance?
o How is technology both detrimental and beneficial in fighting human trafficking?

This class is designed as an introduction to these issues at a local, state, national, and global level. We will explore the challenges from multiple viewpoints including the Founder of Global Hope 365, short videos, and guest talks from survivors, academics, law enforcement, and others.
