HOW THE JAMES WEBB SPACE TELESCOPE WAS MADE
SC 215 How the James Webb Space Telescope Was Made
Format B/C
The initial design concept for JWST was first proposed in 1996. Much of the technology that was required did not exist then, so much engineering expertise and creativity would be needed to produce a functioning telescope. This talk will explain why the spacecraft is constructed as it is, and what drove those choices. Details will be provided on the construction, testing, instrumentation, commissioning, and operation of the spacecraft. The capabilities and limitations of the spacecraft will be described, what it is meant to observe, and what it might discover.
