KNIGHTS IN SHINING ARMOR: LORDSHIP

KNIGHTS IN SHINING ARMOR
Lordship, Warfare and Crusade
SS 305

As part of the Knights in Shining Armor presentation, this class will explore how during the Middle Ages, European aristocrats sought to increase their power through conquest inside and outside European borders. In addition, there was increased attention to ceremony and conspicuous consumption. The class will also examine how the tensions and warfare finally led up to the First Crusade with a fascination that continued on to further crusades.

Presenter: Nancy McLaughlin, UCI Associate Professor of Medieval European History
