EXPLORING MARS:
NASA’S InSight Lander Mission

NASA’s InSight (Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport) Mission is dedicated to studying the interior structure and composition of Mars. After a 6-month voyage Insight landed at Elysium Planitia on November 26, 2018.

The program will measure Mars’s "vital signs": its "pulse" (seismology), "temperature" (heat flow), and "reflexes" (precision tracking). Studying Mars's interior will help us answer key questions about the early formation of rocky planets in our inner solar system; Mercury, Venus, and Earth. Understanding planet formation will help guide our search for life beyond Earth. InSight also studies tectonic activity and meteorite impacts on Mars today.
