THE CONTENTIOUS DEBATE OVER U.S. IMMIGRA

THE CONTENTIOUS DEBATE OVER U.S. IMMIGRATION POLICY
SS 309

What would it take for Congress to summon the political will to craft a "comprehensive" immigration reform? The U.S.Congress has the constitutional power and responsibility to enact laws pertaining to immigration and naturalization. In recent decades it has been unable to agree on the compromises necessary to reach agreements on major issues. The cause of this failure lies in the deep divisions in national and state politics,
the courts, the media, the blogosphere, and communities.

Presenter: Louis DeSipio,
UCI professor of Political Science. His research focuses on incorporation of immigrants in democracies, especially in the United States, which is the subject of his latest book.
