THE CAESARS MIGHT AND MADNESS
THE CAESARS MIGHT AND MADNESS
The Final Centuries of the Roman/Byzantine Empires
SS 305
The Fourth Crusade in 1204 stops at Constantinople on its way to the Middle East, breaching the walls of the city and destroying the art and literary collections of the ancient world within. The Byzantines won back Constantinople in 1260 until the Turks breached the walls again in 1453. After 2200 years, the Roman world of Augustus, Trajan, Justinian, and Basil II was no more.
