YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM AND WOUND HEALING
SC 205 YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM AND WOUND HEALING
What happens when we have an injury and our bodies react to repair themselves? In this lecture we will examine the four phases of wound healing: hemostasis, inflammation, tissue proliferation and maturation/remodeling. The role of inflammation will be considered, and we will explore specific issues related to the rate of healing including peripheral artery disease and diet. We will also examine therapies to speed healing such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and hyperbaric oxygen.
