The community of microorganisms that inhabit a particular environment is known as a microbiome. We will discuss the implications in our environmental and in clinical and biochemical research.

September 27: Jennifer Martiny, Ph.D.,
Professor Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Director UCI Microbiome Initiative, will introduce the microbiome and discuss ocean and soil research including their effect on climate change.

October 4: Katrine Whiteson, Ph.D.,
Assistant Professor, Department of Molecular Biology & Biochemistry, Associate Director UCI Microbiome Initiative, will discuss the human microbiome from clinical perspectives.

October 11: Elizabeth Bess, Ph.D.,
Assistant Professor of Chemistry, UCI, will discuss research related to breast cancer and directed microbial production of valuable molecules.
