SHAKESPEARE'S FIRST FOLIO: PUTTING IT TOGETHER, TAKING IT APART
SHAKESPEARE’S FIRST FOLIO: Putting it together, Taking it apart
AH 105
Format B/C
OLLI welcomes back Ms. Andrea Mays, author of The Millionaire and the Bard, to discuss in detail how Shakespeare’s First Folio was printed and assembled. How do we know so much about the process? Why was one play left out of the collection? She will share with us how we know what we know about it! Ms. Mays covers what happened to the original 750 copies after they left the print shop—where they scattered over the next four centuries, how many remain, and how did current owners obtain them? For members who registered for the Special Event visit to the UCI Libraries Rare Book Archives, she will prepare them to view the UCI Libraries’ First Folio.
Presenter: Andrea Mays is the author of the Henry Clay Folger biography titled The Millionaire and the Bard. This is her second talk at OLLI.
