THE UPS AND DOWNS OF DANCING

THE UPS AND DOWNS OF DANCING
AH 105

This presentation will address not only the benefits of dancing, but also will focus on the intersection between art and science with a specific focus on rehabilitation tools for individuals with neurological disorders.

We will explore injury prevention and wellness for dancers to determine the relationship of motion in space and how dancers can reduce injuries. We shall also explore new technologies, such as motion capture systems and MRIs, which help individuals with neurological disorders rehabilitate. Most importantly, OLLI members will be encouraged to dance by learning about the benefits of country line dancing, zumba, ballroom, and jazzercize.

Presenter: Kelli Sharp
is an Assistant Professor in the UCI Department of Dance. Dr. Sharp is also co-director of I-move in the Stem Cell Research Center.
