SS 309 CHINESE HISTORY 19TH CENTURY TO 1970’S

This presentation on the history of China, will focus on China’s relations with the United States and the Western world. The first class will cover the Opium Wars, Western colonialism in China, the 1911 Revolution, and the rise of Chiang Kai-shek and the Nationalist Party. The second class will cover US support for China during the Second World War, the rise of the Chinese Communist Party, the Korean War, and the anti-imperialist/anti-American sentiment that ensued in the 1950s and 1960s.
