THE ANIMAL-HUMAN DISEASE THREAT

THE ANIMAL-HUMAN DISEASE THREAT
SC 209

Infectious diseases arising from animal sources (commonly referred to as zoonotic infections) have had significant public health consequences. They remain a major focus of the medical community’s efforts to identify and rapidly manage emerging threats. More than 6 out of every 10 known infectious diseases in people are spread from animals. Spread of viruses and bacteria can be through direct contact, indirect contact and other means. This talk will focus on zoonotic disease threats -- infections in animal hosts that spread to humans and wreak havoc.
