From its beginning in the year 610 CE, and the start of the writing of the Koran, we will trace the rapid growth of Islamic power from tribal to regional and ultimately to the gates of Europe, including:
• An overview of Muhammad and the origins of Islam. The rapid expanse of the influence and the basic reasons behind the division of Shia and Sunni.
• The rise of the Ottoman Empire. The great wars for expansion and power. Contributions of Islam in the arts and sciences.
• Division of the Arab lands in 1919 to the present conflicts in the Middle East.
