THE CONTENTIOUS DEBATE US IMMIGRATION POLICY

THE CONTENTIOUS DEBATE US IMMIGRATION POLICY
SS 301

The US Congress has not been able to agree on the compromises necessary to enact laws pertaining to immigration. This is due to divisions in national and state electoral politics, the courts, the media, the blogosphere, and in community organizations. Donald Trump’s election to the presidency has further aggravated conflict over this issue.

The goal of this course is to analyze what it will take for Congress to summon the political will to craft a comprehensive immigration reform and what such a reform would include.

Presenter: Louis DeSipio,
UCI Department of Political Science. His research focuses on the incorporation of immigrants in democracies, especially the United States, the subject of most recent book.
