CANCER DETECTION
CANCER DETECTION:
The Liquid Biopsy Breakthrough
SC 203
Liquid biopsies, also known as fluid biopsy or fluid phase biopsy, are non-invasive alternatives to surgical biopsies which provide information about disease processes (such as cancer) through a simple blood draw. Because it can be performed more frequently than surgical procedures, it can better track tumors and mutations over time. Liquid biopsy of circulating tumor cells has been recently validated and approved by the FDA. This presentation will cover the factors responsible for its tremendous growth in the past few years and its importance in diagnosing and even predicting various cancers by measuring DNA fragments in blood.
