Project Leadership & Communication

A required course in the Certificate Program in Project Management.

Course Description

The bulk of the work of a project manager is leading a project team and communicating with that team and project stakeholders. In this course, students will learn how to apply verbal and written communication, conflict management and problem solving, virtual team management, and team empowerment and motivation skills to serve as effective project leaders.

Prerequisite: Completion of Project Management Overview is required to begin this course. The Overview course will establish the project that will be used for the duration of the program.

All courses in the Project Management Program require a PMI membership. By becoming a PMI member, you'll gain access to Standards+ and a digital version of the most recent PMBOK® Guide, both of which are required for this course.

This course uses live sessions via Zoom.   A device with audio and visual will be needed to participate.  The student guide provides additional resources/information on how to use and access your courses Zoom sessions. Please note these sessions will be recorded and posted in the course for all students to access.

Shelly has partnered with corporate leaders to develop enterprise level solutions, optimized business processes, and achieved operational objectives at companies such as Capital Group "The American Funds," EarthLink Network Inc., Public Communication Services, Kaiser Permanente, and Scorpion Computer Services (the subject of CBS TV’s current hit show “Scorpion.” Wright is a Certified Project Management Professional, Certified Information Systems Auditor, Certified ScrumMaster,® and Certified Identity Theft Risk Management Specialist®. Shelly Wright teaches university-level project management and quality assurance courses on behalf of the University of California - Irvine Division of Continuing Education and the University of Redlands. Shelly Wright is the founder of Wright1 Consulting, Inc., and co-founder of Survive Identity Theft. Wright also holds several board positions and was awarded the 2016 University of California - Irvine Division of Continuing Education’s Distinguished Instructor Award. In 2015, Wright received the SoTec Inspirational Award which is conferred upon technology professionals who distinguished themselves by inspiring other technology professionals through admirable charity work and giving back to the community.
