Course Description

Effective communication is essential in every industry. It is particularly important in esports because practitioners and decisions makers are often at different levels of knowledge and sophistication in this relatively new industry. According to our research, one of the most highly desired skillsets that esports industry leaders want from an esports professional is to have effective communication skills. In this class, you will learn how to present effectively to decision makers so that you can make the next big esports move for your organization or yourself. This is hands-on course practice and hone all major types of communications: emails, written proposals, and presentations. Learn how to apply effective communication strategies and presentation tactics to specific esports scenarios.

This online course may include live webinars using an online meeting software called Zoom. The dates of these webinars would be determined during the first week of class. All webinars will be recorded and posted on the course website for those who cannot participate in the live sessions. You may access your online course by 12pm (noon) Pacific Standard Time on the start date through your UCI DCE web account at https://ce.uci.edu/. Select “My Account,” then “My Courses” from the menu on the left, and lastly “Access Canvas” to access your online course. Instruction begins promptly on the start date. If you enrolled on or after the start date, you may access your online course one hour from the time of your enrollment. Instructor


Matt Nausha, M.A, is the Head of Amateur and Scholastic, North America at Riot Games. Currently, he is also the Head of the RSAA, leading the board members to serve the scholastic community. He has over five years experience working in esports including his role as the Head of Esports at CLG. He has worked with a myriad of stakeholders in the esports community, as well as experience in contract negotiations, player management, staff management, recruiting, operating live events, working with different publishers, and experience working within many esport titles. Prior to transitioning to esports, he was a mental health therapist for 6 years and also served as the Co-Commissioner for the Southern California Collegiate Volleyball League. He has a passion for personal development and enjoys working with individuals to actualize their personal goals.
