Course Description

Financial management skills are a must have in a facilities management career in our current economic environment. This course will not only guide you through the basic terminologies and tools, it will enhance all the talents you currently bring while educating you thoroughly to perform financial analysis with a facility management twist. You will reap the benefits of being able to comprehend and perform financial analysis through practical experience with real life financial analysis scenarios. Acquire the skills that can help you reason, process, develop and present both an operating and capital budget along with analysis to help you sell your projects, such as: Payback, Life-Cycle Costing, Return on Investment (ROI), Return on Assets (ROA), Net Present Value (NPV), and Present Value (PV). You will also explore alternative financial analysis strategies to assist in establishing cost effective practices.

Prerequisites, A working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

Instructor


Phyllis Meng, B.S., CFM, SFP, IFMA Fellow, was Deputy Executive Officer, General Services at the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority. While at LACMTA she was the building manager for the 628,000, 28 story high-rise headquarters building as well as being responsible for the agency's records, library, mail service and copy center. She has over 30 years’ experience in the facilities management field, and brings practical and varied facility experience into the classroom. Ms. Meng has presented many workshops and courses specializing in finance and her award winning articles have been published in various facilities magazines. Her involvement in the local IFMA chapter, Public Sector Council, IFMA Foundation, IFMA Board of Directors, and facilitating IFMA educational courses has brought her many honors and provided the unique opportunity to share her experiences with others. Phyllis is the adjunct professor for the Chaffey College and West Los Angeles Facilities Management courses.
