Course Description

Obtain a comprehensive application of financial management for spa and wellness operations. Review the components of financial statements, daily revenues and expenses, cash flow, ratio analysis, and basic principles of accounting and financial responsibility. Experience problem-solving methods and apply them to realistic scenarios in the spa and wellness industries. Analyze and evaluate techniques designed to maximize efficiencies resulting in improved profitability and greater financial success.

See enrollment confirmation for login information. Please enroll at least one week prior to the course start date. Students should be proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. Students should be comfortable creating and navigating Word documents and Excel spreadsheets.

NOTE: This course may have optional, live sessions via Zoom. The sessions will be recorded and posted for students who are not able to attend. The Zoom meeting link and password to join will be provided in the course. A device with audio and visual will be needed to participate. The following student guide provides additional resources/information on how to use and access the course’s Zoom sessions.

Sherrie Tennessee started her career in the scientific world and spent several years as a researcher at world-renowned organizations, including Johns Hopkins University and MedImmune. Sherrie has 20 years of experience in the beauty, spa, and wellness industry in the role of a massage therapist, nail tech, spa owner, speaker, professor, educator, and author. In addition to receiving multiple awards throughout her career, Sherrie’s writings have been published in some highly-respected industry outlets, and she has spoken at many public forums. Ms. Tennessee is an author and has designed, developed, and facilitated training programs for a variety of spa locations under her SpaSOS brand, including Sandals Resorts International, Red Lane Spa and Mandarin Oriental. Sherrie has a B.S. in Biology, holds a Master of Business Administration, and is a Certified Integrative Health and Wellness Coach. Ms. Tennessee is currently a Ph.D. student at William F. Harrah College of Hospitality, University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
