Project Planning and Risk

A required course in the Certificate Program in Project Management.

Course Description

This course covers key components of project planning and documentation. Students will learn about the project management plan, Work Breakdown Structures for waterfall, agile, and hybrid methods, and subsidiary management plans. The subsidiary plans will include scope and risk management strategies. Students will create all these components based upon a project of their choice.

Prerequisite: Completion of Project Management Overview is required to begin this course. The Overview course will establish the project that will be used for the duration of the program.

All courses in the Project Management Program require a PMI membership. By becoming a PMI member, you'll gain access to Standards+ and a digital version of the most recent PMBOKĀ® Guide.

This course has three required resources, all available online through a PMI membership:

  1. The Standard for Project Management, PMBOKĀ® Guide, 7th Edition
  2. Practice Standard for Work Breakdown Structures, 3rd Edition
  3. The Standard for Risk Management in Portfolios, Programs, and Projects

This course uses live sessions via Zoom.   A device with audio and visual will be needed to participate.  The student guide provides additional resources/information on how to use and access your courses Zoom sessions. Please note these sessions will be recorded and posted in the course for all students to access.

Instructor


Laszlo Retfalvi, P.Eng., PMP, PMI-RMP is Principal of Retfalvi and Associates. Laszlo is past Vice-President of the Program and Risk Management Office (PRMO) at Allen Vanguard Corporation. Previously, Laszlo was with General Dynamics, the Irving Group of Companies and SED Systems. Focused on accountability, leadership, and business success, Laszlo is also a recipient of the 2013 UCI Division of Continuing Education Distinguished Instructor Award.
