Esports Operations

A required course in the Esports Management Certificate Program.

Course Description

To work for an esports organization or more specifically a team, you’ve got to have a well-rounded view of organizational structure and common roles, how different departments work together to accomplish shared goals, an interest in developing and executing promotion and funding opportunities, and a finger on the pulse of global esports issues and trends. This course will prepare students to work and grow within an esports organization.

This online course may include live webinars using an online meeting software called Zoom. The dates of these webinars would be determined during the first week of class. All webinars will be recorded and posted on the course website for those who cannot participate in the live sessions. You may access your online course by 12pm (noon) Pacific Standard Time on the start date through your UCI DCE web account at https://ce.uci.edu/. Select “My Account,” then “My Courses” from the menu on the left, and lastly “Access Canvas” to access your online course. Instruction begins promptly on the start date. If you enrolled on or after the start date, you may access your online course one hour from the time of your enrollment. Instructor


Adam Baugh, M.S., is a Program Operations Manager at Esports Engine, a turnkey esports solutions company founded by former Major League Gaming (MLG) execs. Using his 8 years of experience in the esports industry, he contributes to creating best-in-class experiences for esports fans and partners around the world. Prior to joining Esports Engine, he worked at NYXL (the owners and operators of the NY Excelsior in the Overwatch League, the New York Subliners in the Call of Duty League, and NYFU, New York's Valorant team), Tespa, Blizzard Entertainment, and Esports Heaven. His career journey has seen him work in a variety of areas, including marketing, social media, events, community management, on-camera talent work, product development, and content creation. He also co-founded Rutgers Esports, the student-led collegiate esports organization at Rutgers University, the State University of New Jersey.
