Legal Research
A required course in the Paralegal Certificate Program.
Course Description
Examine the legal research process. Sources of legal authority, use of mandatory and persuasive authority, use of primary and secondary authority, use of print and electronic research tools, and the reliability of legal authority will be explored.
This course requires significant time outside the classroom to complete assignments.
NOTE: This course has live sessions via Zoom. Students should plan to attend all Zoom sessions. If a student is unable to attend a session, a recording will be available. The Zoom meeting link and password to join will be provided in the course. A device with audio and visual will be needed to participate. The following student guide provides additional resources/information on how to use and access the course’s Zoom sessions.

Kara A. Nunez, Esq. is a licensed attorney in good standing with the California State Bar. She brings years of litigation experience from her time working at one of the top law firms in the country. Her practice focused on both insurance defense litigation and family law. Prior to practicing law, Kara taught courses offered at the University of California Santa Cruz and the Vista and Oceanside Unified School Districts. Kara is passionate about teaching and has returned to the classroom share her legal education and experience.
