Networking and Securing IOT Devices

A required course in the Internet of Things Specialized Studies Program.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is changing our lives using connected devices. This course covers networking technologies, protocols, and security issues that are important for IoT devices. It begins with an overview of networking fundamentals that are essential for reliable and secure IoT device connections. Security is a major concern for IoT developers and users. The course examines how to design strong security into IoT devices and how to use a security by design approach for end-to-end security. Participants explore how IoT platforms are used to connect IoT devices and provide security. Participants gain hands-on experience using the Raspberry Pi to explore specific concepts and technologies that are important for connecting and securing IoT devices. In the final course project, participants outline a specific IoT application, evaluate networking and security issues, and connect the Raspberry Pi to an IoT platform.
