Course Description

Gain an overview of embedded systems applications and design procedures, and learn how to plan and execute complete embedded systems designs that are cost-effective and competitive. You will gain the knowledge needed to determine and document system requirements for new designs as well as for improving existing systems. In addition you will learn analysis techniques for optimizing system specifications as well as selecting microcontrollers for specific designs. Hands-on development is facilitated with the XMEGA-A3BU embedded system development kit.

Prerequisite: EECS 805, C Programming for Embedded Systems, or equivalent experience. NOTE: Students are required to purchase Microchip (Atmel) XMEGA-A3BU Xplained Development Kit; Mfr. Part Number: ATXMEGAA3BU-XPLD

Saleem M. Yamani, M.S., is a technologist at Western Digital in Irvine, CA. He has more than 20 years experience in the embedded software engineering field. He has worked in design, and implementation of embedded software programming in various high tech industries, which include computers, networking, SSD and hard disk drives. He has taught C programming language at Saddleback College for 2 years, and has been teaching Embedded System courses at UCI Continuing Education for the past 8 years.
