Nonprofit Management Fundamentals
This is the first required course in the Nonprofit Management Specialized Studies Program.
Course Description
Explore the basics of nonprofit management and gain an overview of the connection between the organizational mission, basic strategies, and nonprofit ethics considerations. Topics also include building a culture of philanthropy, the societal role of the nonprofit sector, and maintaining the necessary work life balance while engaged in nonprofit and fundraising efforts.

Successful completion of this course is applicable for 20 points in Category 1.B – Education of the CFRE International application for initial certification and/or recertification.
NOTE: This course may have optional, live sessions via Zoom. The sessions will be recorded and posted for students who are not able to attend. The Zoom meeting link and password to join will be provided in the course. A device with audio and visual will be needed to participate. The following student guide provides additional resources/information on how to use and access the course’s Zoom sessions.
Instructor
David Gillanders has nearly a decade of progressive public service management experience, leading some of the highest-performing and most impactful Non-Profits in Orange County. He has contributed to the development of programs and agency management in Homelessness, Poverty, and Domestic Violence issues, and has leveraged business acumen and a previous decade-long career in the private sector to assist in the development of strategies and system evaluations along with expertise in organizational and staff management. Mr. Gillanders graduated from DePaul University with an M.S. in Public Service Management and a B.S. in Human Services from California State University, Fullerton.
