College Admissions Consulting Resources
A required course in the Independent Educational Consultant Certificate Program.
Course Description
There are hundreds of books and websites devoted to the college search and planning process. This course focuses on helping you to identify the most reliable resources for college planning, examination of these tools and how to use them in one’s practice. Topics include: identifying personality types, evaluating colleges from afar, college trip planning for you and your clients, dealing with selective college admissions and managing expectations, assessing quality, extracurricular activities, and summer planning. Students will use the suggested resources to create a college list as their final project in this course.
We highly recommend students complete EDUC_X406 Principles of Independent Educational Consulting prior to enrolling in this course. See enrollment confirmation for login information. Due to high demand, early enrollment recommended.
NOTE: This course may have optional, live sessions via Zoom. The sessions will be recorded and posted for students who are not able to attend. The Zoom meeting link and password to join will be provided in the course. A device with audio and visual will be needed to participate. The following student guide provides additional resources/information on how to use and access the course’s Zoom sessions.
Instructor
Kristina L. Dooley, CEP, is the founder of Estrela Consulting, an Ohio-based independent educational consulting firm. Kristina has 20+ years of experience working with students from around the world navigating the complex college and school search processes. A first-generation college student, she is a graduate of Hiram College (B.A.) and Kent State University (M.A.). In addition to her work with students, Kristina serves on the Boards of IECA and the IECA Foundation, and is a faculty member of the IECA Summer Training Institute for aspiring educational consultants.
