Project Management Overview

Course Description

This course is an introduction to project management, the roles and responsibilities of the project manager and project team, and project methodologies, including Traditional/Waterfall, Agile, and hybrid methodologies. Students will learn what happens at each stage of the project life cycle and will explore the importance of tailoring to fit their own project context.

This course must be taken be taken as a standalone first, as it serves as a foundation for the remainder of the program. Learners will also be selecting the project that they will be using for the duration of the program. Remaining courses may be taken in any order.

This course has two required resources:

  1. The Standard for Project Management, PMBOK® Guide, 7th Edition
  2. PMIstandards+ Subscription: Each subscriber to PMIstandards+ will receive a complimentary 60-day trial. After the trial period, there will be a monthly fee of $8.00

These resources can be obtained in two ways:

  1. PMI Membership: By becoming a PMI member, you'll gain access to Standards+ and a digital version of the PMBOK® Guide, 7th Edition.
  2. PMIstandards+ Subscription (available through PMI)

This course uses live sessions via Zoom.   A device with audio and visual will be needed to participate.  The student guide provides additional resources/information on how to use and access your courses Zoom sessions. Please note these sessions will be recorded and posted in the course for all students to access.

Margaret Meloni, MBA, Ph.D., PMP is a champion for students who want to be the best project managers they can be. In this capacity she teaches project management, leadership and oversees the pmStudent community. Margaret has supported project managers at organizations such as Occidental Petroleum, Northrop Grumman, Toyota Motor Credit, CalStart and arc. Her background in IT Project Management and PMO Leadership enables Margaret to understand that managing projects can be difficult. This is why her goal is to provide her community with knowledge and skills that can be applied immediately. Her wish is to see her students take on tough projects and emerge as strong and sought-after project managers. Margaret is a dynamic teacher, who uses her real-life lessons learned combined with inspiration, common sense and a dash of humor to help her students be the best project managers that they can be.
