Course Description

This course is designed to meet the Title 22 licensing requirements and the California Child Development Permit as per AB243. It includes instruction in the recognition, management, and prevention of infectious diseases, including immunizations, and prevention of childhood injuries. It also includes instruction in emergency preparedness and evacuation, caring for children with special needs, and identification and reporting of signs and symptoms of child abuse as well as numerous hours of instruction in nutrition training. Three State of California certificates are earned during this course: 6 Rights of Medication Administration, Child Abuse Mandated Reporting, and Integrated Pest Control. As cardiopulmonary resuscitation and pediatric first aid is required to be updated periodically, it is not provided within the contents of this course.

Cheryll R. Ruszat, M.A. in Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Education Specialist credential and the American Montessori Society Teacher Certification. Ms. Ruszat has been a National Commissioner for the National Association for the Education of Young Children school accreditation team, a frequent presenter at national conferences and consults for early childhood education programs. She is the Executive Director for the Montessori Schools of Irvine, one on the UC Irvine campus as well as three others in the city of Irvine, all of which are accredited by NAEYC. Ms. Ruszat has been an early childhood professional for more than 3 decades and was the recipient of the Instructor of Excellence award at UC Irvine.
