Exploring E-Learning Development Tools

A required course in the E-Learning Instructional Design Certificate Program.

In this course, students will explore various industry-standard tools used to develop asynchronous eLearning. Students will analyze each of the tools’ features and functionality and measure these against its usability, interactivity and assessment options, and cost, and determine which tool will best support the content provided to them. Tools demonstrated may include Articulate Storyline 360 and Rise 360, Adobe Captivate, TechSmith Camtasia, Canva, and Vyond. Students will learn through video simulations, interactive content, open office hours, and collaboration with other students. Throughout this course, students will evaluate and compare the pros and cons of selecting eLearning development tools, evaluate a piece of content, choose the most appropriate tool, and develop content in their chosen tool. This course allows participants to explore various eLearning tools, and then decide on ONE tool that they will use for their final project. Each tool (Articulate Storyline 360 and Rise 360, Adobe Captivate, TechSmith Camtasia, Canva, and Vyond) will be introduced at an introductory level through online demonstrations, explanations, and hands-on instruction (during optional office hours). For intermediate and advanced skills, students will be pointed to additional resources that go beyond the introductory level.
