Advanced Speaking and Listening II

Course Description

This course introduces advanced level students to listening and speaking skills necessary for professional and academic settings. Students learn to think critically about the listening passage by paying attention tone and persuasive techniques. Speaking skills are developed by giving speeches and conducting and presenting research for presentations. Examples of learning activities in this course include online discussions, exercises, pronunciation practice, note-taking exercises, and virtual sessions.

Helen Nam, M.A. holds two master’s degrees, one in TESOL and the other in Philosophy, both from Biola University with her BA, also in Philosophy, from UCLA. She has experience teaching both on-ground and online English Composition courses at Bethesda University of California. Ms. Nam is a full-time teacher with UCI DCE and excels in teaching ESL and teacher training courses. Ms. Nam is also very involved in professional organizations. She currently serves as Awards Coordinator on the Board of CATESOL Education Foundation. She has vast experience organizing, working at, and presenting at professional conferences. She has travelled widely and speaks Korean fluently.
