A required course in the Independent Educational Consultant Certificate Program.
This course addresses the key components necessary for developing and operating an independent educational consulting business. Topics include: business finance options, contracts and agreements, software and hardware options, insurance and incorporation and how to develop and implement a business plan. The course highlights issues related to setting fees, collecting payment, managing the inquiry process, hiring employees and subcontractors, budgeting and launching a website for business.
We highly recommend students complete EDUC_X406 Principles of Independent Educational Consulting prior to enrolling in this course. See enrollment confirmation for login information. Due to high demand, early enrollment recommended.
NOTE: This course may have optional, live sessions via Zoom. The sessions will be recorded and posted for students who are not able to attend. The Zoom meeting link and password to join will be provided in the course. A device with audio and visual will be needed to participate. The following student guide provides additional resources/information on how to use and access the course’s Zoom sessions.
Elisabeth (Betsy) Morgan has been a practicing IEC since 2003. She holds a BA in mathematics from Gettysburg College, completed master’s level course work in business administration at the University of Connecticut, and holds a MALS in social sciences from Wesleyan University. In addition, she has a certificate in college counseling from UCLA Extension and is a CEP. She is a member of AICEP, NACAC, NEACAC, and IACAC. Betsy has served on the IECA Board of Directors for two terms, as VP for Committees, chair of the Audit and Board Development Committees, and as a member of the College Committee and chair of the Affordability Task Force. In addition, she sits on Rutgers University Out-of-State Admissions Sounding Board and is a board member and College Coordinator for Madison A Better Chance—for which she received the 2013 Irving W. Katz Award for Distinguished Service.
