Principles of Financial Analysis

Course Description

Learn the basic analytical and mathematical tools used in personal financial planning. The concepts of cash flow, time value of money, present value, future value, annuities, amortization, net present value, and internal rate of return will be explored.

Early registration recommended. This course is required to sit for the CFP Examination.

You may access your online course on the first day of class by 12pm (noon) Pacific Standard Time. This online course may include webinars using an online conferencing tool called Zoom. All webinars will be recorded and posted on the course website for those who cannot participate in the live sessions.

A prerequisite for all PFP courses. With equivalent experience, course may be taken out of sequence.

The HP-12C or HP-10BII calculator is required. The 5th or 6th edition of the textbook can be used.

Michael Liang is the co-founder of Liang & Quinley Wealth Management and entered the industry in 2006. He is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Professional, Certified Private Wealth Advisor® and Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor®. He holds the Series 7, 66 (through LPL Financial) and Life & Health Insurance licenses. Michael’s main focus is working with immigrants and small business owners. Michael started his career at Ameriprise in Irvine, CA. During his two years there he met his future business partner, Christopher Quinley. Michael left Ameriprise and went on to manage Cathay Bank’s Wealth Management Department in Orange County. In October of 2011, Michael and Christopher decided to combine their expertise in the industry and open their own firm. Michael and Christopher teach at University of California, Irvine where they are able to share their knowledge and help the next generation of financial advisors. Michael also was honored to recently receive Investment News’ 40 Under 40 award in 2016. Michael was born in Taiwan and speaks Mandarin Chinese fluently. He was raised with his two sisters in Villa Park, CA. Michael is a graduate of the University of California, San Diego with a degree in Management Science. He enjoys playing golf, spending time with his nephews, and volunteering with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program in Orange County. CA Insurance Lic #: 0E21533

Christopher Quinley is the co-founder of Liang & Quinley Wealth Management and entered the industry in 2006. He is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER Professional™ and Certified Investment Management Analyst®. He holds the Series 7, 66 (through LPL Financial) and Life & Health Insurance licenses. Christopher’s areas of focus include financial planning, investment management, and retirement planning. Christopher started at Ameriprise Financial, and spent the first six years of his career there. In October of 2011, Christopher made the decision to leave Ameriprise and open his own firm with business partner and friend, Michael Liang. Christopher and Michael were given the opportunity to teach at University of California, Irvine where they are able to share their knowledge and help the next generation of financial advisors succeed. Christopher was raised in Orange County, CA and moved south to attend San Diego State University for college. He is a graduate of San Diego State with a major in Financial Services and a minor in Economics. Christopher also received is Master of Science in the business administration from San Diego State in June 2019. You can find him working on his 1 handicap in golf, cheering on the Angels baseball team and volunteering with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program in Orange County. CA Insurance Lic #: 0F03182
