Course Description

Learn how apply the knowledge acquired from the required Personal Financial Planning curriculum to create a complete financial plan from the ground up. Client counseling, data gathering, presentation, and implementation of financial plans will be explored.

Early registration recommended. The HP-12C or HP-10BII calculator is required. Required prerequisites: Completion of all required courses in the PFP certificate program. If you have completed equivalent coursework or have equivalent experience, please email for approval to waive requirements. Students are required to have access to a computer that is capable of viewing videos as well as recording and uploading a video presentation. This course is required to sit for the CFP Examination. For those planning to sit for this exam, please create an account at and then email with your CFP ID# once you have completed the 8 required courses to have your education verification submitted to the CFP Board. You may access your online course on the first day of class by 12pm (noon) Pacific Standard Time. This course may use live sessions via Zoom. A device with audio and visual will be needed to participate. The following student guide provides additional resources/information on how to use and access your courses Zoom sessions.

Andrew Chou, CFP®, is managing partner of NexGen Wealth Management. He began his career in 2000 in San Francisco working for one of the largest independent wealth management firms in the country. After relocating to Los Angeles, he enjoyed a successful career with Fidelity Investments and TD Ameritrade, where he served as the trusted advisor to an exclusive group of families and business owners, and provided advice on issues related to retirement, estate planning, and asset management. Additionally, Chou volunteers his time and expertise with a number of non-profit organizations in the Los Angeles area. He currently serves as the President of the Financial Planning Association of San Gabriel Valley. As a proud graduate of University of California, Irvine, he currently serves on the Board of UC Irvine Alumni Association and was a co-founder of the Los Angeles Chapter of the UCI Alumni Association. He holds FINRA licenses Series 7, Series 63 and CA insurance license.
