Sport Marketing and Communication

Course Description

Sport Marketing guides students through the strategic marketing process while informing students of current marketing trends in the sport industry. Founded in data-driven decision making, students will learn how to utilize market data to identify target markets, create and implement the marketing mix, and monitor key performance indicators. This course provides a foundation for developing a strategic marketing plan and then enacting that plan via targeted campaigns.

This course is an online course, utilizing Zoom Meeting for weekly live synchronous sessions. To join your course meetings, you will need to enter a password. Your session password associated with your course will be shared in the announcement in your online course. All of your course sessions using Zoom will be recorded and posted on the course website for those who cannot participate in the live sessions, which will also require the password for you to listen to them. Students will need to have access to the internet, have speakers and a microphone to participate in their courses synchronous sessions

Ben Corbett, MBA, Ph.D., has 25 years of experience in the sport industry. After beginning in collegiate and commercial strength and conditioning, Ben pivoted in 2006 by returning to school to earn a MBA with an emphasis in Sport Business. He then gained valuable experience in operations, marketing, business development, and business intelligence in collegiate and private sport firms before earning a scholarship to pursue a Ph.D. in Sport Management in at Griffith University in Australia. Ben’s first academic position after completing the Ph.D. was at Loughborough University in London, the number one university in the world for sport studies, where he developed two new Master’s degree programs - Sport Business and Innovation and Digital Technologies and Analytics in Sport Business. Ben has continued to teach at world renowned universities while consulting for various sport organizations
