A required course in the Personal Financial Planning Certificate Program.

Course Description

Learn the investment concepts essential to personal financial planning. Securities laws and regulations, risk analysis, stock valuation, expected rates of return, market indicators, monetary policy, bonds, yield curves, futures, mortgages, mutual funds, and portfolio construction and management will be explored.

Early registration recommended. The HP-12C or HP-10BII calculator is required. Required prerequisites: Mgmt X433.20 Principles of Financial Planning and MGMT X433 Survey of Personal Financial Planning or equivalent experience. This course is required to sit for the CFP Examination. See enrollment confirmation for login information to access the course curriculum online. Textbook may be purchased directly from the publisher Money Education on their website or by calling (888) 295-6023. Do not purchase a used book. Only new books will have the unused access code for the online resources.

Joseph Teurlings, CFP®, CFA®, CIMA, ChFC, is the founder/owner of Monocot Wealth Management, an independent Investment Advisory firm. He is an industry veteran with over 16 years of experience and worked as vice president and senior vice president at two top tier global wealth management companies, Morgan Stanley and UBS Financial Services, Inc. Because of his diligence and hard work, Joe rose through the ranks of his wealth management firms from an entry-level position to Senior Vice President at UBS Financial Services Inc. before deciding to go independent and form Monocot Wealth Management. Joseph was born in the Netherlands and lived there for the first 30 years of his life. After college, he worked for 11 years as a management consultant, engagement manager, business case analyst and vice president for Cap Gemini, a global management consulting firm. He worked in many countries and gained valuable insight into how large companies work and how their executives think. In addition to English, Joe is fluent in Dutch, German and French.
