Course Description

Introduces ethics and ethical frameworks. Describes virtue, justice and social responsibilities. Analyzes unethical behavior such as greed, corruption, fraud, and earnings management. Reviews professional rules of conducts for accountants, including discreditable acts, confidentiality, independence and conflicts of interest. Examines the duties as a whistle-blower. Explains the duties of the public company auditors under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, and taxation professionals.

Early registration recommended. You may access your online course on the first day of class by 12pm (noon) Pacific Standard Time. This online course may include webinars using an online conferencing tool called Zoom. All webinars will be recorded and posted on the course website for those who cannot participate in the live sessions.

This course/program is a Division of Continuing Education offering not affiliated with the Paul Merage School of Business nor does it award Merage degree credits.

Instructor


Monique Smalling, CPA, MBA, started her career with an international public accounting firm, where she managed audit engagements. She left to help one of her clients, a start-up software company, through their IPO. Monique was also a Senior Manager for a CPA firm. She was responsible for hiring, training, and supervising the professional staff and managing the firm's audit engagements. Monique has been teaching at the university level for over 15 years. She teaches financial, intermediate and managerial accounting, auditing, and ethics in accounting.
