Facilities managers not only have to manage facilities operations but also have to manage personnel. This course is designed to provide facilities professionals with sound principles of supervision and management. The topics presented are beneficial to anyone who supervises and/or manages within a facilities management organization or in an environment where technical, professional, or tradespeople are working. Analyses of typical organizations are presented and the role of the supervisor in an organization is discussed. Essential supervisory skills are covered including communication skills for supervisors, verbal communication and presenting yourself, written communication, problem-solving, managing change, managing a budget, strategic planning, ethics of supervisors, an team development. Participants gain practical knowledge that can be used on the job to enhance leadership skills and improve productivity.
Recommended prerequisite: SocEcol X499, Fundamentals of Facilities Management or equivalent experience.
