Course Description

Human resources management is vital to the financial health and productivity of all organizations. This important function provides the crucial link between management and employees in the public and private sector. In this course you will learn the fundamentals of human resources management. Begin by acquiring an in-depth understanding of the charter and mission of human resources in the industrial, service and public sectors. Then multiply your role and knowledge of the major elements of the personnel process including recruiting, interviewing, wage and labor issues, benefits, compensation, employment, regulations, documentation and termination, while gaining an insider's grasp of employee relations, work force diversity and human resources planning and research. Finally, you will address various theories regarding employee morale, organizational behavior and group dynamics. If you are interested in changing or advancing your career, this course will give you an overview of this growing field.

NOTE: This course will meet in live sessions via Zoom. The sessions will be recorded and posted for students who are not able to attend due to unforeseen circumstances. Attending the live Zoom session or watching the recording is mandatory. Additional readings, discussion forums, assignments, and/or quizzes may also be assigned weekly in the online course. The Zoom meeting link and password to join will be provided in your course. A device with audio and visual will be needed to participate. Bobby Ho, B.A., SPHR is the Director of Human Resources for Insight Investments, LLC in Costa Mesa where he manages all HR functions. Bobby has more than 18 years of human resources experience in all areas of human capital management and has strong expertise in Human Resources Information Systems. Prior to IIC, Mr. Ho held previous HR roles at Ricoh Electronics, Inc., Siebel Systems Inc., and PricewaterhouseCoopers. He has been recognized for his work in HR with Insight Investments Chairman Award and Instructor of Excellence by University of California Irvine Division of Continuing Education.
